Hello! I have tons to talk about and yet I'm not sure what to say first. Well I'll go in chronological order, yesterday my A-M-A-Z-I-N-G photographer friend Lewa and I went on a little excursion. It was over 100 degrees out (the previous day was 106, a record for Seattle), and to say the least we were burning a sweat. With little hesitation we walked from my house to sparkling Greenlake. Greenlake is man-made lake but nevertheless beautiful and filled with all sorts of people; running, bicycling, playing music, reading, paddle-boating, strolling and rowing. Due to the uncommonly hot weather we decided paddle-boating would be a must, but before that we went for a stroll in this beautiful pathway leading away from the lake. It vaguely reminds me of a French painting or Monet. As Lewa was running around snapping photos I began to fell rather self-conscious, everyone was staring at us. But at times like these, I find it easier to shut out everything else and just do my thing. However, Lewa and I faced more important issues that self-consciousness. When we arrived at the paddle boat shack, we were horrified to find you must be eighteen or older to sign the insurance agreement. The man, who so obviously looked like Adrian Grenier, from Entourage and Devil Wears Prada, would not budge. He told us to go sweet talk various eighteen and elders to see if they would sign the agreement, no one did. At that point we were getting a little desperate, but thankfully our luck changed. Mr. Grenier's co-workers disappeared, and without their judging stares, he felt inclined to finally let us on a boat after half an hour of sweating and fretting. Thanks. The water was lovely, and funnily enough after all the effort to get the boat we only used it for 10% of the time. We paddled out to the direct middle jumped off and let it float. Honestly I must tell you, there is no better feeling than laying on your back in the gentle rushing water, with one of your BFF's, in the boiling sun. Heaven on earth is possible. Then, just when I thought the day could not get any better, the lovely blogger of Archiving Fashion gifted me an award and tag! For this tag, I have to tell you ten interesting things about me. And I am supposed to tag ten people, but....I tag everyone because I would love to hear ten interesting things about you all! 1. I have many obsessions. Some include: The Beatles, Michael Phelps, Titanic, Romeo + Juliet, Harry Potter, Twilight (going to Forks this weekend with my Daddy!), swimming, Leonardo DiCaprio films, British accents, people with British accents, Moulin Rouge, fashion...the list goes in, but I get quite obsessed with them and talk about them maybe too much. 2. I know pretty much all there is to know about The Beatles, like their girlfriends, instruments, homes, children, favorite colour, food, actress, actor, death, birthday, concerts, pretty much everything. I have stacks of Beatles books, a gazillion posters, all their movies, printed out web info, calendars, magazines, picture frames, the stubs to a Ringo Starr concert i went to, records, CD's, bags, shirts, and an inventory in my brain about them. Sometimes I talk non-stop about them, and i often think about them, often kind of means all the time. The Beatles changed my life, they introduced me to music older than I am, they introduced me to a generation, a style, and a movement. 3. I go to Europe every summer for vacation and I get to visit my only cousins who are three year old boy twins with the cutest British accents! 4. When I grow up, I would like to live in London and work as a journalist for Vogue, TeenVogue, or ELLE. 5. One of my tennis coaches resembles Troy Bolton, (a.ka. Zac Efron) another one strangely resembles a teddy bear, hence where he got his nick name; Teddy. And the other one is going to Brown this year and is going to marry Emma Watson, we hope, their wedding is already planned. 6. I believe in true love, love at first sight, and fighting for love. 7. Recently, I have fallen in love with the music of Bob Dylan and Nirvana. I figure if anyone is telling the truth, it’s them. Also I am a secret, and well now not-so-secret Bob Dylan fan, I use to despise his voice, now I kinda dig it. 8. I wasn’t very “fashionable” until I started this blog, I had always been interested, but the blog really changed things and now I’m obsessed. 9. I am full of ideals, and thoughts fed to me by the media, books, friends, stories, family, and music. And if you just listen, I could probably fill your head with them too. 10. I am what I am today because of you, am nothing but fragments of everyone I have know, read, or heard about. Well, that’s all for know folks, hope you have an excellent weekend! Once I get back from Forks, I will be sure to fill you in about the trip; it’s bound to be drop dead amazing! Before you lies three of the most vivacious beautiful women in the world, and the three faces of Chloe perfume; Anja Rubik, Chloe Sevigney, and Clemence Posey. According to the creative director, the three of them represent ”a new generation of free spirited, independent, style conscious women." And indeed they do, but each girl, with her perfume represents something different. Anya was chosen for her sensuality, Chloe for her strength, and little Clemence for her innocence. Something us normal un-perfect beings can somewhat relate to. Anya is the new rising face of fashion, I love her look, her hair is divine and super edgy. She has already modeled for various magazines: Vouge, Numero, Flair, Russh, ELLE, and of course Nylon. And she has modeled for many top designers including Givenchy, Dior, Hermes, Valentino, Gucci, Fendi, Missoni, Versace, Prada, Oscar de la Renta, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Balenciaga, and of course Chloe. We all must know Chloe by now, she is the indie actress who stars in Big Love and has a reputation of breaking style barriers. Some say she is more popular for her fashion then her acting, but I love her anyway. Chloe has a lovely unconventional stare, that is highlighted by her gold hair and honey coloured skin. Clemence is portrayed as the new face of young Hollywood. She had a small role in the fourth Harry Potter as the breathtaking Fleur and was also in In Bruges. Later this year we will see her opposite Jim Sturgess in Heartless. Not does she have a rising acting career she also has a rising modeling career. Clemence has been featured in I-D, Jalouse, Yen, and well Nylon. And she is the face of Gap and well Chloe. What do you think of these lovely ladies, do you have a favorite? I think I want to be them all, I want to be the Chloe girl, and I don't want to be divided in three. I have a silly feeling that I should buy all the perfumes and mix them together, but that would be silly. Hmmm..... The most important question you can ask a designer, painter, or musician is: where do you get your inspiration. To this, John Galliano answers ”Flemish painters and Monsieur Dior." But now this season’s more important question is: what do you think of the recession. And in true unapologetic Dior style, Galliano answers "There's a credit crunch, not a creative crunch. Of course, everyone is being more careful with their discretionary purchases. I am. But it's our job to make people dream, and to provide the value in quality, cut, and imagination." So, with Monsieur Dior in the back of his mind against a Monet landscape with seventeenth century elements, Mr. Galliano created a Haute Couture collection to dream about. Immediately you can tell Mr. Galliano knows a thing or two about traditional Dutch kitchens. And I like to think, with my Dutch passport, half Dutch nationality, and my early visits to the Netherlands I might know a bit too. In every traditional Dutch kitchen you will find blue and white Delftware tiles lining the cabinets. They usually feature floral arrangements or children playing games. When I looked at this piece the first thing that stood out to me, besides Galliano’s exceptional detail to well the details, was the Delftware print. And you can tell this dress has it as well, and even more so Dutch because of the tulips. Tulips, as it seems, are the un-official symbol of Holland (which by the way isn't a country but actually a large province within the Netherlands). Colour, Girl with the Pearl Earring much? This totally reminds me of my Dutch girl costume I own because of the shape; all it needs is a pair of sturdy clogs, which I surely can provide. Also I love all these hats, I wish people wore hats more often; they make great statements and have great character. One thing I notice about all of Galliano's designs that he accentuates the waist, because it is usually the smallest part of your body. He does this by using belts or increasing shoulders or skirt sizes. The only issue I have with Mr. Galliano’s Haute Couture is that it is Haute; it will be difficult to incorporate his designs into normal designs. Any advice? I will leave you with on of the many inspirational photos quotes from I Can Read, my new favorite blog. Maybe I am in love with the whole damn world, but it's sure pleasant. Do check it out and have a lovely Sunday! Recently, I have been dying for a pair of Doc Martens. But everyone I know is rooting against it, when I suggested how cool my friends jeans would look in a pair of Doc Martens she sneered, when i told my dad they were super cool he said "you are not eighteen I will not have you in my house stomping with those boots", when I told my mum she said "I am not getting you a pair of lesbian boots". Sigh, I love the tough 90's grunge look of the Docs, but I don't even have to get them in black, I could get them in pink, floral, iridescent, deep blue, whatever. I just want a pair These amazing people and bloggers seem to enjoy their Docs, especially the girl licking her sequined pair. Is it just us and Doc Martens are really ugly, or are Doc Martens kinda hip once again? I just know, if I could somehow convince my mum into buying me a pair I would cherish them. I would wear them with bubble skirts, skinny jeans, blazers, everything…..if only….. Hella Good 07/20/2009
The lucky winner of the Current Elliot Jeans from Chickdowntown is the lovely Erika, congratulations! The ride to the concert location took over an hour because of traffic, and once we got there I was shocked. There were seas of people, cars, and colours. After waiting in line for a enormously long time, we got in. My friend and I quickly made our way to our seats, with my mum falling much behind. Our seats were way way out on the lawn, but it was fine because we got to lay out our blankets and we had a pretty good view. My god, the moment Gwen came on stage it was like electricity. She was jumping, screaming, stamping and dancing, she even did a few push ups. She was masculine in the way she dressed, (white beater tank-top and combat boots) but she was feminine in the way she moved and sang. I was most amazed; she had such an athletic body and had such a strong personality! Her presence filled the whole the whole amphitheatre. She was more beautiful in person, if that’s possible. Even though the band had already done over 40 concerts on this tour, they still looked truly happy to see us and play. It made me smile, performers performing what they like to do and rocking it. Gwen would come down and interact with the audience members, she gave a hug to a man who traveled over 947 miles to see her, she held up a sign a man brought of his baby daughter he had named after her, and she even signed a ladies arm so that the lady could tattoo it. Such interaction really sets No Doubt apart in the realm of fan appreciation, for sure. From the moment onwards, under the black sky, looking at the bright lights, I decided that when I grow up I will be Gwen Stefani. Above is live footage of my favorite No Doubt song from the actual concert! As some of you may know, I'm actualy in a band myself. The friend I took to the concert is in it too, and she loved Gwen and No Doubt as well. We both realized last night that we might be serious about our music, so we are creating a website for our band, I will be sure to let you know more about that. If you have the chance to go see No Doubt, do, you won't be disappointed. So yes Gwen, that was "fu***** amazing", and I love you too. I just came back from a dance, and I'm simply exhausted. It was a pleasant 94 degrees today, very hot. Though I had an excellent time jumping around, dancing, and talking to random strangers. The joys of being a teenager, you are constantly on one party all day and all night. Anyway, I promised you a review of Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince so I shall give you one. At exactly 7:30 I arrived at Lewa, my good friend, great photographer, and Harry Potter fanatics house. We had an excellent pre-party casting spells, dressing up, watching The Sorcer stone, and discussing trivia. While we were excited to see HP 6, we were also nervous and not open to disappointment. And, we were not disappointed. I adored the movie, some people found it irreverent (which quite frankly makes no sense because it was sold out everywhere in the country except fot Tennessee), but I found it charming. The best of the series, all the actors and actresses gave their full 110%, for the first time since HP 3. They seemed newly re-energized and displayed a wider range of acting skills, they became enduring characters that you felt for and loved. Daniel Radcliffe showed a humorous side to him, not just the angry or confused side, we couldn't stop laughing. Even though HP 6 was the most serious of the series so far it was also the funniest, oxy moron. Rupert Grint (Ron) acted as id his role was really part of the story, no longer just the cowardly side - kick. Emma Watson (Hermione) was as consistent as ever. Tom Felton (Malfoy) was no longer the spoiled brat, he was harsh an evil, but you end up loving him because he was the ill-fated. My favorite scene, besides the one with Daniel Radcliffe acting high on Felix, is the one right before the death eaters come at the end. All the students are hanging in the corridors kissing and laughing in slow motion, oblivious that within seconds their world would change forever. Quite sad really, tears were rolling down my face. Then Malfoy walks down the hall bringing the death eaters into the school who rave and pillage the sacred home of Harry and many others. The death eaters meet at the top of the tower to kill Dumbledore. Bellatrix Lestrange (Helena Bonham Carter), yipping and screaming in Malfoy's ear, coming across as a female Joker. Malfoy, however is unable to kill Dumbledore, he was forced into this position because, as he said " I have to kill you or he (Voldamort) will kill me." Snape, the always apparent arch-enemy kills off Dumbledore ignoring Harry's call to fight. Touching. It was truly the first HP that tugged my heart strings. If you have seen it, I would love to hear your opinion, if you haven't make sure to see it. Have a lovely weekend too! Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light. 07/14/2009
I am so sorry about this much delayed post, Weebly was not working, it was nothing intentional. It practically drove me crazy, infact it is driving me crazy, slowly Weebly is disabling my ability to blog, and soon I might not be able to blog anymore. Posts are continuing to be more and more difficult. But, now that I can blog I will blog. When I was eleven years old I faced the biggest disappointment of my life, I was not accepted into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Yes, I am one of those Harry Potter fanatics. I have read all the books at least four of five times, and memorized all the lines from the movies. My friends and I have Harry Potter marathons and Harry Potter battles. We use pencils and call out spells until someone uses the unforgivable cruse; avada kedavra, then we die. I have fantasies about being Hermione, Ginny, Harry, and Draco. I will definitely be going to go see the 6th movie The Half Blood Prince July 14th at midnight, full costume, mark your calendars. Yet, as I have been getting older I am becoming not only jealous of Hermione but also of Emma Watson who plays her. Emma Watson has recently stepping, well not exactly stepping more like leaping into the fashion world. She is already the face of Burberry and the face of Chanel. Because of her position she gets to wear as many Chanel dresses as she wants to award shows and has a closet full as well. She has other designer clothing, but rumor has it she is creating her own teen line where all profits go to UNICEF. Not only does she have the clothes, she also has the covers, the connections, the invites, and the beauty. She gets invited to private Rodarte dinners, poses for Karl Lagerfeld, and is photographed for Vogue, Elle, Tatler, Flare, Bazaar, Crash, and the Sunday Times, to name a few. But even with all her beauty, money, and fame she is still down to earth. Emma is, as it seems, one of the few normal grown up child star. She is so bluntly down to earth that she is going to college, and has considered several top-notch schools like Cambridge, Brown, Yale, and Harvard. Emma is truly a Hermione, a smart girl. And as you can clearly see from this editorial, a pretty girl. She has a most charming smile and her eyes could tell stories. All the clothing she is wearing in this spread is delightfully childish and very flattering. I love the mix of prints, media, ribbons, and colours. What she is wearing, I feel is my inner style child. I do wear and idol the edgy styles, the minimalist styles, the bohemian look and all…I just think that deep down inside I will always be the girly girl wearing everything she loves. Anyone else like that? Even though Emma says she might never act again, I’m sure we will be seeing much more of her! Don’t forget to enter the Current Elliot Giveaway, ends July 18th! I am rather w i c k e d l y p r o u d of myself today. I have completed my second DIY project successfully! I took an average looking puke green military bag that belonged to my mum about thirty years ago, and created a more d e c a d e n t military bag. We re-discovered this bag a few years ago while rummaging through my mums school hood boxes in her parent’s house. However, within a few months it was stuffed into a different box within our own house. And it was forgotten.....until I was flipping through this month’s issue of TeenVogue spread on nerd grunge bags, shoes, and clothing. As I said, my bag is p u k e g r e e n , the colour of the book bag above. Immediately it sent me into a wave of nausea and ideas. I love the chains and badges so much on these bags that I decided my newly b e l o v e d bag needed a makeover. I ran upstairs unearthed my Girl Scout bag from a time long gone. Savagely, I ripped off the three coolest badges I ever earned (which weren't many). Quickly, I poured out my pin collection. I soon found a military star pin in the sea of colourful metal. And for that extra touch I grabbed a gold bracelet chain from my jewelry box. This is the final product, personally I love it an as I said earlier am wickedly proud of myself. It was a super quick DIY that required l i t t l e s k i l l s , you just need to know how to sew, glue, and use your resources. What do you guys think? Hoping you like it, if you have any good DIY projects and idea I would love to hear them. Also, make sure to enter my Current Elliot Jeans giveaway, remember it ends July 18th!
