Topshop 02/28/2009

Kate Moss has been getting good reports on her Topshop line. I believe she has made quite a few collections for Sir Philip's line actually. And indeed her line has been very successful that it literally flies of the shelves. A while ago I was flipping through a magazine while in vacation in Portugal and there was a page covered in statistics. One of the statistics had an amount of time that all of Kate Moss's clothing sold out, it was like thirteen minutes. As we all know the Soho flagship Topshop store in New York was suppose to open last October but there have been serious delays. Most people are guessing the 40,000 square foot plan put them back a bit. There will be four floorss, 32 dressing rooms (can you imagine no waiting in line..hopefully), a shoe lounge (what exactly is a shoe lounge? a place where you lounge with shoes?), and a VIP lounge fo celebrity shoppers (when exactly are you considered a celebrity?). And just to make if a bit more glamorous there will be furturistic lighting tubes (80's) and a DJ. Now it's opening in April! Isn't that great, great if you live in New York that is. However, if you're like me and don't live anywhere remotely close to New York you can use the website. And if you don't really like internet shopping think on the bright side Kate Moss's line will never sell out on the internet.

Rugby, Rugby, Rugby. Where have you been all my life? In an outdoor shopping mall we use to have a Rugby, but it just left. I remember my friends and I would sneek in and pretend to look really cool so we could look at all the english-rough-edgy Rugby stuff.  The interior was super fab decorated with posters, newspapers, rugby balls and such. Also, I remember my aunt from Amsterdam went in there with me once and tried on a blue nautical skirt. Except she was raised and lives in Europe ( where they have weird sizing that goes into the 100s) and had no idea what her size was so we had to keep asking the assistant for different sizes. The asssistant was looking at us like she was thinking  what are you doing here. Anyway, I was looking in the changing rooms that also look very cool and I saw they had posters of (ehm... some of my favorite people in the whole wide world) Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and John Lennon. No way! Now I really must stay on topic about the clothes. So I love the school boy jacket, actually I adore it and want it. Looks incredibly eclectic preppy english. What do you think of Rugby, leave your comments below.

Colour is Back 02/26/2009

Fashion week has now moved to London! House of Holland did a display with tons of colours, the polar opposite of New Yorks Fashion Week designs. Seeing their runway was like walking into a United Colors of Benetton. They used different tones of green with white, and turqoiuse, and pink, and purple, and purple, and on and on. Fresh idea that worked because of its simplicity. I really like the colourful shoes. Surely they will add some color to Alexander Wangs collection. I had to delete my previous post about the 80's because it messed up the structure of this page, sorry everyone.

I'm enamored by all this colour. Here in Seattle it's snowing, can you believe it? To cheer us all up I'll show you some more color.

Tulip Skirts 02/25/2009

A week or two ago I tried the tulip skirt style. It didn't reallly work out. I wore a baby blue Gap tank-top that I had worn the night before to create an Alexander Wang "I've worn this for a week look" and  a white skirt with flower embroidary covering every centimeter. As i said it didn't really work out. Firstly, the tank-top didn't hold it's shape, it looked like I had worn it for a month straight by the end of the day. Secondly, the skirt wasn't a  tulip skirt and was to big. I tried to hide the unworkableness of the outfit by slipping the skirt on over the tank-top and putting on a big electric blue belt to hold up the skirt. Then to top off this bad outfit I wore it with my  navy converse which with the long skirt made my legs look shorter than they really are. Decidedly dissapointed, I am now on a search for tulip skirts, tank-tops/blouses, and colorful high heels. Help would be much appreciated. For now though I will go on a search.

Rogen Ruffle Dress ~ Urban Outfitters ~ $88.00

This is a vintage looking ensemble with a cool ruffled placket at the scoopneck. The salmon colored blouse is very chic and the plainess of the ruffles compliment the pastel colour. The skirt is a bit more a-line but, who cares? The navy buttons on the skirt gives it a nautical feel. And because of the sailor feel it  would go perfect with the navy nail polish I selected a while ago for accessories. Incredibly affordable as well.

Solid Skirt w/ Bow Belt ~ Forever21 ~ $20.00

This vibrant skirt features a gently pleated waist which gives you a nice shape. The ad says you can dress playfully with it, however, you could also go for a very classy look with a creme vintage blouse and purpleish (whatever that colour is above) heels and brunette straight across bangs. The belt is removable in case you don't want it and this skirt comes in gray as well.

Rhiannon Skirt ~ Delia's ~ $20.00

This floral tulip skirt is very fresh and would be perfect for the spring (I sound like a Macy's advertisement). I'm quite in love with the turqouise color this spring so I would reallly suggest anything in turqouise. The website displays this skirt with a cardigan and a scarf. I don't really like either. Cardigan + scarf + floral skirt = Grandma style or an Easter mass outfit. I'm not saying you can't wear a cardigan with this it's just ......don't button it up - or wear it with a scarf - or wear it to Easter Mass - and don't buy the particular cardigan in the display. Ok?

Recently,  I was discussing with a dear friend of mine dresses. Her sister wears tons of dresses to school and in the summer. Because my school has a uniform we don't get to wear dresses, or just our own clothing for that matter. However, I have to say I don't mind uniforms. A. Because our uniform has plaid skirts and its pretty relaxed. B. I don't have enough clothes to wear 7 days a week. C. Even if i did have enough clothes it would take me ages each day to figure out what to wear. Yes, I'm one of those people. Anyway, my friend and I took a vow to wear more dresses this summer among other things.

Spring Floral Strap Dress ~ Forever21

Doesn't that look like the perfect flirty spring dress. I really really want it, and I will propably get it. It's only 25 dollars from Forever21. I just love Forever21, even if their return policy is horrible and their clothes are cheaply made...it's so cheap it doesn't matter. This dress would look perfect with gladiator sandals and a long leather strap bag. Must Have! The inspiration floral dress i have been looking for is pictured below from Topshop.

SUPAYANA sweet dreams dress S-M

This super cute dress was hand made using vintage materials. The style is 1960's mod, very cool. And is made from all eco-friendly materials. I don't think i personally could throw this off but, i would be certainly willing to try. It is $150 at  Etsy.com a cute boutique.

Mixed Media Dress ~ Alloy

I find the tank-top skirt dress thing very appealing. I would go for a brighter tank for more colour but that's about it. Very sophisticated but cute. Or try a shorter skirt with blouse kind of thing. If you like this exact outfit go to alloy.com

Amanda Eyelet Dress ~ Delias

This reminds me of the Lacoste tennis dresses, my mum has one. I like the ruffles, sleeves, and length. Seems very fresh and versatile. Easy going you could probably even actually wear it to tennis if you like. Not very out going but has a touch of 60's mod and is always in style. Go to Delias.com if you want it for $50.00.

Hit ~ Angelina Jolie

This sophisticated Ellie Sabb gown is layed back but tthe elegant ruffles give a nice acccent. The simpleness of the dress in nice with the gorgeous green Lorraine Schwartz earings.

Miss ~ Miley Cyrus

First of all I don't understand why she was even invited to the Oscars. Second, this dress is ghastly. Remember the cool mermaid-like dress Marion Colliard wore last year to the Oscars? That worked, as this sparkly over layered mermaid gown isn't.

Hit ~ Kate Winslet

I absolutley adore this Yves Saint Laurent dress, very classy. Totally reminds me of the Titanic. I love the one sided strap on the left than the exttra lace layer on the right. Not only was her dress amazing she is an amazing thespian and won best actress.

Miss ~ Sophie Loren

Mustard coloured ruffles..enough said.

Hit ~ Penelope Cruz

Oooo, she looks like a princess. This vintage Bahlmain is beautifully. Very beautiful, I love all the details and rhine stones. When I grow up I want to wear gowns like that.  Darn, now once again my blogging skills aren't up to par and i will try to upload tomorrow two other dresses fro the Oscars.

This is the YSL Manifesto Spring/Summer 2009 teaser trailer. For some weird reason I really love it, it reminds us why we love fashion...it's fabulous! Definitely flashy, high energy, and over confident. But aren't we all more confident when wearing pumps or the latest style. Lets savor this.

Emmm breathless.

Alexander Wang 02/18/2009

I have to say I  am slightly disappointed in myself. I totally thought I had the whole blogging thing down but,  when I logged on i realized some posts had pictures that were way to big and there was three of four blank posts. How did that happen? I will have to ask Lewa (my guru of technology) how to fix it once she comes back from D.C. Which unfortunatly will be on Friday. I could ask Keeks but i believe she's sick and her computer is broken. That by the way is the reason why neither of them have blogged recently. Alas, I must stop talking about my uninteresting computer issues and move on to fashion. Alexander Wang's new collection is amzing. A bit or should I say a lot rebel rocker. All black. He has fierce dresses, jumpsuits, leather bomber jackets, and elegantly cut blazers.  Last year Wang was considered a newcomer but this year he has really left his mark. Bravo!

I'm pretty ccertain you can't read the page in the notebook below. so I'll retype it for you. I wrote "Do you like my outfit? I was going for an indie Chanel look at first, then my design kind of expanded. I'm no Rachel Zoe but, Im fairly proud of my Union Jack clutch touch." Not to sound like a fourth grader but clutch and touch rhyme. LOL. Anyway, the dress is Christopher Kane ($7,280), the big bracelet is Chanel (98 GBP), the other smaller braclets are Funaccessories (12.95 AUD), the shoes are Converse Chuck Taylors ($61.99), the tight are Forever21 ($8.80), the necklace also Forever21 ($5.80), the camera is Fredflare (?), and the clutch that I REALLY REALLY want is Monsoon (30.00 GBP). This picture quality is rather bad so if you want to see a much better image go to the address beow and click on this design http://www.polyvore.com/chanel_rebel/set?id=6620673

------------------------------------------------------------

Today, I tried to figure out how to scan, unfortunatly many pages were upside down. This picture is from the Februrary issue of Teen Vouge. The spread was all about wearing cool 80's nails and purses. Supposedly, the 80's are back because there hasn't been such a big selection and approval of 80's clothes since...well since the 80's.  I like the bag it's Rebecca Minkoff but what I really want to show you are the nails. The nails have random letters on each indiviual nail, how cool is that? I wore nails similar to the ones in the picture except in neon big nail polish (which by the way i got from my ever so sweet colleage keeks) to school. Most people didn't get the randomness of it, so the next day I opted for L-0-V-E-P-H-E-L-P-S on my nails to show my on going support for Michael Phelps.

Balmain Military Jacket

This jacket is reminscent of the Srgt. Pepper jackets and is a cooler version of the jackets Coldplay wore to the Grammys. I like how it's reallly a masculine jacket but comes across very feminine. The butttons and embroidery (it's not really embroidery but I don't know the real name) gives the jacket a certain edge, kind of rebellish. Generally, I would say no to the shoulder pad style because it makes you look like a football  player but, you couldn't have this coat without them. Definetly a must buy!!

Valentino R.E.D. Trench Coat

Usually, I would say that Burberry is the guru of all trench coats, however, I was pleasently pleased with Valentino's selection this season. The three quarter length sleeves are super cute and compliment the black accents nicely. Wouldn't this jacket look perfect over a winter gray dress or even a turquoise and white spring dress? No matter which way you wear it heels are a must, just ask my ever so sweet college Keeks why. The price of this delightful jacket is $990.00, $100.00 less than the Burberry coat.

In case you didn't know FASHION week is going on in New York.  Incredibly exciting. On Valentines day the most crowded show was Barbie's. Celebrating her 50th birthday, Barbie looked just as young as ever. And no doubt she looks better than Madonna looks at 50, but prehaps not as muscular. “Five decades after her debut at a New York toy fair, cultural icon Barbie celebrates 50 years of unapologetic glamour.  Her fashion credentials are explosive, having worked with: Prada, Alexander Wang, Calvin Klein, Azzedine Alaia, Louis Vuitton, Vivienne Westwood, and Manolo Blahnik amongst many other style luminaries.” In total, Barbie has been dressed by over 70 fabulous designers. Below is the picture of some of the Barbie models.
